About the Conference
SORTA (Symposium on Ship Design, Marine Engineering and Technology) has been a well-established regional scientific gathering since 1980. After successful editions in Zadar (2024), Malinska (2022), and Rijeka (2020), the 2026 edition will be hosted in Belgrade, at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering by the Department of Naval Architecture. After 42 years, SORTA is returning to Belgrade – the last SORTA conference held in Belgrade took place in 1984.
This event gathers academic researchers, industry experts, classification societies, and marine technology developers to present and discuss the latest innovations and trends in ship design, construction, hydrodynamics, energy efficiency, and sustainability.

Submission Guidelines
Authors are invited to submit abstracts and papers contributing to the given symposium topics. The authors are kindly asked to submit the abstract written in English by the given deadline. Each abstract should have a maximum of 250 words.
The authors can submit abstract(s) only or abstract(s) followed by the full paper(s). In both cases, an oral presentation or poster session exhibition is mandatory for the main event. The full paper should be prepared according to instructions available on the official symposium website www.sorta2026.org . All abstracts will be published in the Book of Abstracts of the SORTA 2026 symposium.
The SORTA 2026 Proceedings with the peer-reviewed full papers will be published by the IOS Press in the series Progress in Marine Science and Technology, which is abstracted/indexed in the Scopus database.
Preparing the manuscript:
- The manuscript should be submitted as ‘camera-ready’, but without page numbers or running headlines.
- The publisher Instructions to Authors and tools for the preparation of an Electronic Camera version of the full paper can be found in the Ready Manuscript (in Word or LaTeX), which can be downloaded from the IOS Press website.
- All articles should include an Abstract and Keywords. This is essential to enhance the visibility of the article at IOS Press eBooks and in indexing databases.
How to submit the manuscript files:
1) The corresponding author should submit:
- high resolution PDF files, with all fonts embedded (if you are using Acrobat Distiller, please select the job option Press Optimized)
- the source files of this version (either MS Word, or LaTeX files zipped together).
2) The articles should have filenames like xy_filename.pdf, where the “filename” part can be the author’s name, article title, or some other reference, and “xy” part will be defined by the Editor.
The official language of SORTA 2026 is English.
